Biden’s love for United States of American A new journey to begin

Image
US president-elect Joe Biden has been given his new official presidential Twitter account, but has been forced to start it with zero followers. The Biden campaign is unhappy with the move, which marks a change from the previous transition from Barack Obama. The new account, @PresElectBiden, will transform into the official @POTUS (President of the United States) one on inauguration day on 20 January. In its first six hours online it gained nearly 400,000 followers. Mr Biden's own account has 24 million followers. His team has also registered new accounts - @FLOTUSBiden for the future first lady, Jill Biden, and for the first time, @SecondGentleman, for Ms Harris's husband Doug Emhoff. 'Start from zero' Donald Trump inherited the Potus account's 13 million or so followers when it moved to him from Mr Obama - but that will not happen this time. Mr Biden's team was told about the move less than a month ago, and said it meant "the administration will have to s...

Whatsapp polices and amid risks of loss of users

Image
What is happening actually?   WhatsApp is forcing users to agree to sharing information with Facebook if they want to keep using the service. The company warns users in a pop-up notice that they "need to accept these updates to continue using WhatsApp" - or delete their accounts.  But Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, said European and UK users would not see the same data-sharing changes, although they will need to accept new terms. The exception has been welcomed by some as a victory for EU privacy regulators. The deadline in both regions to accept the change is 8 February, after which "you'll need to accept these updates to continue using WhatsApp", the company said in the pop-up alert to users. A section of the international privacy policy has been removed, which previously let people opt out of sharing personal information with Facebook for the first 30 days after the changes went live. Instead, the latest alert points users to its online help centre "if...

Signal app a Rival to whatsapp and Telegram

Image
Messaging platform Signal said on Friday it was experiencing "technical difficulties" as it worked to accommodate millions of new users. Some users reported messages failing to send on both the mobile and desktop apps for several hours. The company has seen a huge uptick in interest since its rival WhatsApp unveiled new privacy terms last week. On Twitter, Signal said it had added servers "at a record pace" and was working to restore service.  "Millions upon millions of new users are sending a message that privacy matters," it said in a tweet. Both Signal and Telegram, another free-to-use encrypted messaging app, have benefited from discontent sparked by WhatsApp'sw updated terms and conditions. WhatsApp told its two billion users they must allow it to share data with its parent company Facebook if they wished to continue using it. This does not apply to users in the UK and Europe - but the notification was sent to everyone.

Information Warfare

Based on true story    A couple of days ago here in USA I happened to meet a Pakistani-American girl. She was roughly 10 years old and was born and bred in USA. It was an extremely interesting conversation with a confident and intelligent kid who had visited Pakistan only once in her lifetime. During the course of conversation, I asked the kid about her views to shift back to Pakistan to which she straightforwardly gave an expected negative reply. I asked the reason to which she gave a strange reply that she won't shift to Pakistan because India will attack Pakistan and will destroy it. Surprised on getting such an unexpected answer, I further probed her as to why she thought that such an incident would happen. Her reply was rather shocking for me when she referred to some Indian movie that she had watched, which revolved around the story of an Indian attack on Pakistan. I was taken aback by this few minutes of conversation with an innocent little kid and made me think ho...

Pakistan ranks as sixth in global gender difference  index  and  being the most dangerous country for women with the increased number of cases of sexual crimes and domestic violence issues. Patriarchal attitude is mostly responsible for this. Unfortunately rape allegations are not taken seriously our country and sometime even we blame the victim for such acts to gain political motive. People think it as a  money making  concern. Technically  raoe  is the crime in Pakistan and the accused is sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment but ask any woman who is victim she will tell you that how much poorly she has been treated. The victim is already going through depression and post traumatic stress disorder that is already  life threatening and if we also start blaming her it can cause someone’s life. We all should avoid  interpersonal  victim  blaming phenomenon which states that survivor feels comfortable and in control, must give victim ...

Impact and general awareness about this taboo

Image
Victims experience stigmatization in their life especially the female victims face stigmatization in patrilineal rituals with strong culture and taboos regarding sex and sexual life. Victim is isolated from the society and even prohibited from marrying too. UNICEF and International alert released a report about the children released by Nigeria’s insurgency group Boko Haram often face rejection by their own families and the children born of sexual violence are not even considered children and are becoming a matter of discrimination for their own parents . There is a common practice of blaming the victim especially in sexual assault for her clothing and certain actions which reduce others ability to resist against sexual  activity. Such type of accusation against victims arise from the assumption that sexually revealing clothes conveys consent for the sexual actions, irrespective of  the verbal consent . Now the need of the time is to educate the young that attire is...

Victim blaming in our society

Image
Victim blaming is common around the globe and these days there are different degrees of victim blaming for different scenarios such as slut shaming, rape, suicide, sexual abuse, drug abuse, domestic violence, public humiliation rituals, psychological abuse, statutory rape, acid attacks and hate crimes . ·        Now there is a recent example of victim blaming in Pakistan after robbers gang-rapped a woman in front of her children near motorway. A top police official blamed the victim for being out late at night and not having the required guidelines about her travel. Blaming the victim, judging person’s character whether she was a victim or not, these are rooted in our society. ·        Another example of domestic violence is a recent suicide attempt but fortunately the victim survived. Victim’s own family blamed her for the circumstances which were beyond her control and she went for such acts. ·     ...

What is victim shaming?

Image
Victim blaming can be categorized as when the person (the victim) is blamed for the acts done to him/her rather than the perpetrator. In victim blaming the victim is blamed and bears responsibility of the   assault may be because of the dress, language, drinking and conduct. The study of victimology says that the in any way responsibility goes on the shoulders of victim but victims are never to be blamed no matter how much inclement the circumstances are. Victim shaming happens across the globe every day. According to the survey of Harvard Harassment Assault Law-Student Team statistics ·        Undergraduates females experiencing sexual assault in campuses is more than 20% ·        More than 34 % students suffer from depression and experience PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder). ·         Almost 905 of sexual assault are done by the accused who are known to the victims .

How victim shaming can be understood?

Image
Blame the victim  "Let’s blame the victim to satisfy ourselves"  I often wondered why people blame a person who is already suffering from misery rather than blaming the perpetrator for having criminal intentions.  Then one day I came across something known as "The Just World Hypothesis". Finally it all made sense somehow for once at least when I understood that people blame victims to satisfy their sense of security.  The Just World Hypothesis suggests that the world is fair and just. Whatever happens is just and people get what they deserve. So basically it is somewhat similar to the concept of Karma. You see it is difficult to comprehend that one day anything terrible may happen to you for no reason and you cannot do anything about it. So people bring in the Just World Hypothesis by the definition of which they blame the victims rather than the perpetrators. In this way, they feel safe that anything bad cannot happen to them because they will avoid doing what...
