Impact and general awareness about this taboo

Victims experience stigmatization in their life especially the female victims face stigmatization in patrilineal rituals with strong culture and taboos regarding sex and sexual life. Victim is isolated from the society and even prohibited from marrying too. UNICEF and International alert released a report about the children released by Nigeria’s insurgency group Boko Haram often face rejection by their own families and the children born of sexual violence are not even considered children and are becoming a matter of discrimination for their own parents.

There is a common practice of blaming the victim especially in sexual assault for her clothing and certain actions which reduce others ability to resist against sexual  activity. Such type of accusation against victims arise from the assumption that sexually revealing clothes conveys consent for the sexual actions, irrespective of the verbal consent. Now the need of the time is to educate the young that attire is not a responsible factor in determining the consent of the women. Some organizations have adopted the concept of affirmative consent to avoid  sexual activity under influence. The most important thing to remember is there are some problematic behaviors on the victim part those include poor academic performance, drug abuse and alcohol assumption etc.  We don’t have to blame them for these acts or allow yourself to treat their life in such regard.
