What is victim shaming?

 Victim blaming can be categorized as when the person (the victim) is blamed for the acts done to him/her rather than the perpetrator. In victim blaming the victim is blamed and bears responsibility of the assault may be because of the dress, language, drinking and conduct. The study of victimology says that the in any way responsibility goes on the shoulders of victim but victims are never to be blamed no matter how much inclement the circumstances are. Victim shaming happens across the globe every day. According to the survey of Harvard Harassment Assault Law-Student Team statistics

·      Undergraduates females experiencing sexual assault in campuses is more than 20%

·      More than 34 % students suffer from depression and experience PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder).

·       Almost 905 of sexual assault are done by the accused who are known to the victims.

Based on true story    A couple of days ago here in USA I happened to meet a Pakistani-American girl. She was roughly 10 years old and was born and bred in USA. It was an extremely interesting conversation with a confident and intelligent kid who had visited Pakistan only once in her lifetime. During the course of conversation, I asked the kid about her views to shift back to Pakistan to which she straightforwardly gave an expected negative reply. I asked the reason to which she gave a strange reply that she won't shift to Pakistan because India will attack Pakistan and will destroy it. Surprised on getting such an unexpected answer, I further probed her as to why she thought that such an incident would happen.   Victims experience stigmatization in their life especially the female victims face stigmatization in patrilineal rituals with strong culture and taboos regarding sex and sexual life. Victim is isolated from the society and even prohibited from marrying too. UNICEF and International alert released a report about the children released by Nigeria’s insurgency group Boko Haram often face rejection by their own families and the children born of sexual violence are not even considered children and are becoming a matter of discrimination for their own parents .
